Parent-teacher Conference Again

Today is the first parent-teacher meeting for Andrea. Lucky for her - she has no school today. Lucky for me - I am away in China so no need to face the teachers (hurrah)! Geoff had to step up and find out from the teachers how Andrea had done during her first 3 months at school.

Unlike with Tasha where we only hear good things, we had mixed reviews from the teachers about Andrea. Good points first: (i) she is adjusting well to school, (ii) show interest in drawing and music, (iii) can comprehend most instructions in English, and (iv) able to communicate in English. Not so good points: (i) always sleepy when arrive in school - hence moody for the 1st hour of school, and (ii) Mandarin comprehension not up to required level.

I was initially rather upset at the reviews. However, after looking them more objectively, I realised I need to relax!!! This is after all only a review of her 1st 3 months in school and she is only 3!

Having said that, it is all my fault that my poor Andrea has to "suffer"! I wanted Andrea to follow Tasha's foot steps, i.e go to a bilingual nursery and I wanted Andrea to attend a school not too far from our home. As a result, she got accepted into Victoria Nursery (one that is near home), but was allocated into Nursery afternoon class. This is where the problem lies.

Nursery class - Andrea should be attending Pre-nursery but because this campus does not provide Pre-nursery bilingual class, they put her in Nursery. As a result, she is one of the youngest in class. The Mandarin required for Nursery is obviously higher than Pre-nursery - which is why she appears to be "struggling".

Afternoon class - Again, all the bilingual classes at this campus are in the afternoon. This clashes with her nap time. Poor Andrea. I will have to think of a way to solve this for her..........feel bad, feel guilty.......
