Once I tried to teach her alphabets. Her school gave us a bag of foam alphabets to take home. We were supposed to have her practise recognising these letters. But after reading a couple she started to lose her concentration and began to play with the letters. She would put b and d together like this: db and said "Look, scissors!" or put 2 Ls together to make a square. Needless to say, she didn't learn much that day.....
The other day, I was in the bathroom going through my nightly routine before bed. She was with me and was playing with the many bottles of stuff we have. Then suddenly, she said to me "Why do you have a mouse spray?". Huh? What mouse? What spray? Then she pointed at this:
Geoff's Bvlgary cologne. I think she meant it looked like a computer mouse! How interesting!
Finally, unlike Tasha, Andrea doesn't like to learn Chinese.....teaching her anything proper is never easy. Her favourite words after a year in her bilingual kindergarten were "Shen Mo?" (Mandarin: What?). Arghhhhhh..... But I am her mother, so I have no choice. I tried to speak to her in Mandarin from time to time hoping that she will pick up something. The other day, as I started to speak Mandarin to her, I can see her getting irritated and suddenly she just moved away and said "Theng hm meng ah". I was stunt! What? She actually said "I don't understand" in Cantonese!!! So, she is not stupid! She can learn IF she wanted to. Only.........I don't know when she wants!
What do I do with a problem like Andrea?!?!?!
