A Thai Break

With the recent financial crisis around the world, it was good to get away from it all for a few days. This time, our sanctuary was the Marriot Resort and Spa in Phuket. It was a great resort but the best part was that they had a kids club. So, the girls had fun and mum and dad get some couple time together.

While we were there, the girls had a great time there with many "firsts".

First foot massage
We went to Patong Beach one evening. During our pre-children days, we used to love visiting Patong Beach - cheap local food, cheap Thai massage and not to mention the many arts and crafts on sale along the main road. This time, however, it felt different. May be Patong Beach is just not a place for children. After only 30 minutes on the road, Andrea was tired and wanted to be carried. So, we stopped at the first foot massage place we could find and had a family foot massage! We could only do it in Thailand as it is so cheap - only 300 Baht an hour. The kids had a fun time, so did the masseurs.

First braided hair with beads
On the beach in front of the hotel, there were a group of Thai ladies offering massages on the beach as well braided hair with beads. I thought it might be fun for the girls to look like Bo Derek. So, here they are - worked on by numerous ladies!

First snorkeling trip
We took a half day trip to Khai Island. It is a very small island with white sandy beach and lots of fishes just off the beach. It is nothing but a mega tourist spot! We went out by speed boat. First we snorkeled right off the boat. There were lots and lots of fishes. I think the girls were a little intimidated by it initially - imagine floating in deep sea (well deep for them) with fishes literally swimming next to you. Andrea had enough after a while and preferred to feed the fishes from the boat instead. Tasha, as usual, enjoyed the new experience.

Next we settled on Khai Island. Tasha and the other kids in our group had such fun trying to catch a fish - which they eventually did. Andrea, as usual, preferred to play sand on the beach.

It was a nice little break. For more photos of out trip, go to:
