Khoo Kongsi

Another interesting place we visited was Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, or Khoo Kongsi for short.  I had wondered what kongsi stands for.  Not until I got there did I learnt that kongsi stands for 公司. What a strange term to use for a clan.  Anyways, Khoo Kongsi (or 公司) is one of the most distinctive Chinese clan associations in Malaysia. It is well known for its extensive lineage that can be traced back 650 years, as well as its closely-knit and defensive congregation of buildings and a magnificent clanhouse.

In two of the rooms, plaques were put up when a clan member graduated from university.  Rather impressive when the oldest few plagues were of Khoos graduating from law school in the UK in early 1900s.

The clan house is very impressive and the basement had been converted to a museum which is very informative.
