We are in KL for a 2-week break. It seems the latest "in-thing" amongst my mother's friends these days is something they call "fruit enzymes". It is sort of a fermented fruit extract. These fruit enzymes, depending on the type of fruits, are apparently good for health - kiwi extract will help in lowering cholesterol, grape extract will help in blood circulation or detox (I cannot remember which is which) and the list goes on.
And since all it takes are a few large jars, fresh fruits of your choice, lemons, rock/brown sugar and an afternoon, it is very popular amongst the tai-tais. They love comparing the "fruit enzymes" of their labour and they talk about nothing else! Above is my mother's work table. Today she prepared a jar of kiwi and a jar of grape/cherry enzymes.
These are the "fruit enzymes" of her labour! Leave in a cool place for 26 days and the enzymes will be ready for sampling. Sure is faster than wine!
