Junk Trip

On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, we were invited by one of Tasha's classmate's parents for a day out on their company junk. We have not been on a junk for quite some time. When we first arrived in Hong Kong, almost every company had a junk or two. We took turns booking a junk and we had fun going on junk trips almost every month or so during the summer months. But since the Asian crisis, many companies started cutting costs and one of the first to go were the junks.

On the day of the junk trip, the weather was surprisingly good (it had been pouring everyday for the last week) and we boarded the junk from the Aberdeen Marina Club. The captain took the junk out to a bay just off Lamma Island. He parked the junk and the fun began!

Tasha had her first dip in the sea (the wetting of feet by the beach is just not the same!) and her first banana boat ride. As always, Tasha didn't like the idea of going on a banana boat ride. It took her quite some time to convince herself. She watched her friends ride. She went on the speed boat. It wasn't until the captain took a lunch break that changed it. While the captain had his lunch, the kids continued playing on the banana boat, be it a stationary one. Playing on the stationary boat helped calm her fears and she finally agreed to go on the banana boat. Unfortunately for her, there was a little boy on the boat who loves excitement. He kept asking for the banana boat to go faster and int he end, the boat overturned. Needless to say, she wasn't a happy bunny after that and said she will never go on one again......

But we had a great time and the photos are at:
