Chinese Songs

After the successful episode with Chinese book “撕呀 撕呀”, I wreck my brain for ideas to keep Chinese interesting for Tasha. So far, nothing.

On Saturday, after a full day of fun and play, I took the kids to bed around 9pm. After settling them down with a bedtime story, I turned on the TV for some entertainment. Some times it takes them more than 30 mins to sleep, so I keep myself from falling asleep either by reading or watching TV. Generally, they ignore the TV, sometimes Tasha will complain that it is too loud and she cannot sleep, by which time I will have to turn off the TV. Andrea is better with the TV coz she is a TV addict just like me! She likes falling asleep with the TV on. It is a bad habit but, at this stage of my life, whatever that works lah.

Anyways, Francis Yip was on, she was in concert with the Chinese Orchestra. Tasha looked on with interest and since she didn’t have to wake up for school on Sunday, I let her watch. I tried to show her the different Chinese musical instruments. By this time, Andrea is sound asleep.

Francis sang beautifully. And when she sang Shanghai Tang, I was so excited, I told Tasha I will teach her the song. During commercial break, I went in search for the CD which I thought I had……….I found a bunch of other Chinese CDs instead. To keep up her enthusiasm, I said I will play her a few songs from Teresa Tang’s collection and if she likes them, I will teach her. We played a couple of songs and she really liked “月亮代表我的心” and “甜蜜蜜”. The lyrics to these songs are not too difficult and she recognized some words. So, with some actions added to reinforced the lyrics, she picked them up in just 30 minutes.

Here is a clip of Andrea imitating Tasha when singing “甜蜜蜜”:
