Day 1 was, as expected, a total write off. Our flight was late taking off – one of the doors couldn’t close. And they’d only realised the problem after we were boarded, so they tried to fix it with us on board. It was going to be a "quick" 30 minutes job, so said the captain. But as soon as he turned off the seat beat sign, I knew it was bad news. It took them over 2 hours and still they didn’t managed to fix it. But the captain said it is not illegal in HK for the plane to take off with a broken door, so after almost 3 hours (once again, lucky we were in business class), we took off with a broken door!
As expected, we arrived at San Francisco airport 3 hours late. And poor Uncle Bill had been waiting in the airport all this time. It was late afternoon before we got in. The kids were dying to meet and play but the Blacks had to go for a wedding that evening as Nicole was a flower girl. We were left to settle in. To keep ourselves awake, we went for a walk in the neighbourhood which was very pleasant. Oh and a dip in the jacuzzi...nice. We managed to stay up past 9pm local time.
We woke up at about 10am on Day 2 which was excellent coz that meant we should be over the jet lag! After a hearty homemade breakfast, Uncle Bill offered to drive us around the neighbourhood. We went for a walk in nearby woods.

A much needed stop after a mere 20 mins walk! We were so unfit!
What were the girls up to?
Andrea, on the other hand, is a total city girl and didn’t appreciate the walk but still she managed to walk all the way. Well, almost:
And we were lucky to have a local guide - Uncle Bill. He kept us away from some poison oaks! I didn't know there is such a thing as poison oak - only ever heard of poison ivy.....I won't survive a day out there......
Then we hiked up a small hill (forgot the name – brain still not totally operation yet) which gave us a view of the neighbouring bay area.
But we managed to get her to walk part of the way
View of where we started!
And a group photo!
View of neighbouring bay area
Photo of the infamous fog moving into the bay area - apparently this is a common occurrence in the Summer
