Chianti and San Gimignano

While staying at Pogni, we explored the Tuscan region. Today we drove around the Chianti region. This is one place we have not visited before though we have had many Chianti wines. Unlike the wineries in USA and Australia, not many wineries offer tasting and wine tours. So, we planned to just drive around and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

Along the way, we came across an American WW2 military cemetery. Hoping to introduce Tasha to some WW2 history, we made a brief stop.

We then drove around the Chianti area for a while, stopping at Greve in Chianti for lunch. It was a Sunday and there was a food fare at the town square. They even brought out the cows! Florentine steak, yum yum......

Andrea said these were not real cows coz they have no black spots!

This is where the cows end up...... Florentine steak!

Tuscan countryside

Later during the day, we drove to San Gimignano. There were, as usual, lots of tourists. We had to park outside of the old town and take a shuttle bus in. On that day, they closed off part of the main square for some events. We later found out that that weekend they were celebrating the Medieval Harvest Festival of the People of San Gimignano. We saw many actors/residents dressed up in medieval costumes walking about. It was late in the afternoon and the kids were tired, so we decided to take a short stroll and then leave. However, as we were walking towards one of the main gates to leave, we saw the parade made up of people in medieval costumes making their way to the main square for the Medieval Harvest Festival. It was so colourful. This really made the trip worthwhile.

What a lesson to learn about WW2.
There are, apparently, similar ones in the Happy Valley. They introduce the history of the earlier settlement in Hong Kong. The one I read about is in respect of Mr. Chater. Yes, the one who advocated reclaimation of land in central and Chater Road was named after him.
