Weekend in Macau

Shortly after we returned from Italy, we shipped the girls home to KL for a week to see their grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. In particular, to meet their new cousin - Clive Yong and also to attend their Xiao Yi Yi's (my youngest sister) wedding registration.

So, without the kids, we headed over to Macau for the weekend!

As with our last trip, our main focus was FOOD. As soon as we arrived, we headed towards the food. First stop, a noodle shop called as 祥記. And we had:

灼魚皮

蝦子麵

炸鯪魚球

灼魷魚

They were all so yummy. Next, we went to have Chinese dessert, 薑汁撞奶, before moving on to a gelato shop.

Browsing through food street

So many flavours

So hard to choose

I settled on the Durian gelato whilst the guys went for Green Apple flavour and the gals went for Chocolate with Mango (heavenly)

After the gelato, we went for a walk around town (need to burn off some of the food) and then checked into our hotel for some rest before dinner. For dinner, Elke took us to a Portuguese restaurant called Escada. The food was excellent. We had so many dishes and here are some of them.

The best dish was actually the boiled cabbage. A simple but yummy dish which I forgot to take a picture of because it looked so normal when it first arrived. We were part of a bigger group of diners (friend's friends). So, after sampling all the delicious food plus sangria, the bill only came to HK$280 per person. Such good value. We will definitely come again!

Our hotel package came with $300 worth of casino chips - which can only be used to play on the Baccarat table with a minimum bet of $300 - i.e. only 1 bet (if you lose). What is this!?!?! Anyways, both Geoff and I are lousy gamblers, so we gave the chips to Amy and Elke to do as they pleased while Luca, Geoff and I enjoyed cocktails and cigars. To cut a long and exciting story short, they won! And best of all, they won enough to cover the cost of our hotel.

To top it off, typhoon Molave headed towards Hong Kong on the same weekend. At one point, typhoon signal 9 was hoisted. Haven't seen that for some time. So, by being in Macau which was west of Hong Kong, we missed the full force of the typhoon.

Excellent food, free accommodation, escaped typhoon - what an excellent weekend! Can't wait to do it again!
