So when we found out from the concierge that if we arrived an hour later, there was likely to be no more tickets for the day. As this is the last full day of our stay at NYC, we jumped on a cab immediately. We managed to get a ticket, that took about 20 minutes but the queue to board the ferry was 1 and a half hour!!!
It was an extremely hot day, so while I queue up, Geoff took the girls to play at the water 'fountain'.

Finally, our turn came to enter the white building. It was then that we realised the long wait at the queue was due to the fact that the security was as tight as those in the airport! But at least we were on our way.

The first of many to come!

When we arrived at the island, we joined a tour led by a local ranger. The tour was free and very informative. I think I preferred this to the audio guide.

Once back, we decided to visit the West Village. Although I am not a super fan of Sex and the City and therefore didn't know where Carrie is supposed to have lived. I do remember that Carrie and her friends frequently visited the Magnolia Bakery. So it was there that we headed and the girls had cupcakes and I had a magnificent Hummingbird cake....yum!

We had the cakes in a nearby park and the kids were given some bubbles to play with.

We also did some shopping at West Village. It is a much more pleasant place to shop than 5th Avenue. And I found myself a beautiful pair of shoes.
That evening, Geoff had to meet someone for drinks, so once again the girls and I went in search for dinner on our own. The previous night, on the way back to the hotel we saw a very popular street store behind our hotel. There was a long queue for food at close to 10pm! It must be good. I wanted to try that today. But not before we stopped at the M&M store again to get Tasha her green M&M pillow! Once we got that, we went back to buy dinner.
The queue looked pretty reasonable but it took forever. May be they were just starting to cook a new batch. After this morning experience at the Statue of Liberty, I thought I had enough queueing for a while. But for the food, we stayed in line. While waiting, we did some people watching. There were some students, a couple who came in a Mercedes Benz (they left after about 15 mins coz they were late for their next engagement), a couple buying pre-movie dinner, a car loaded with 5-6 adults all having their dinner in it.........We got our food 45 minutes later.

Gyro and Chicken is the name

Lamb with rice
Chicken with rice
Oh, the food was worth the wait! Even the girls agreed (that is saying a lot coz they had to give up their hot dog for this).
