Sanya with Geoff

Before I returned to work in September, Geoff and I took a 4-day break in Sanya. Since there were only 2 of us, we chose to stay at the Banyan Tree. After sending the kids off to school in the morning, we made our way to the airport and arrived at the hotel in time for a late lunch.

My first impression: The Banyan Tree Sanya, whilst built in the Banya Tree style, did not have a unique signature of its own, as with the Banyan Tree Lijiang or Banyan Tree Phuket. But it is still a Banyan Tree and the service was excellent.

While waiting for our room to be ready, we went for lunch. Banyan Tree Sanya only had 2 restaurants, a Chinese which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and a Thai for dinner only. Despite the lack of choice, the fo
od at the Chinese restaurant was very good.

As with all villas at the Banyan Tree, ours was secluded and self sufficient. Only compliant being the poor workmanship of the villa.

The pavilion where I parked myself most for most of the day

Because the villas was so self contained, we didn't feel much like venturing out, except for meals. I am sure the rest of the guests felt the same way as the main pool and the beach were nearly empty. We hardly saw anyone during our stay except of course during meal times......which suited us fine.....we managed to have lots of couple time :)

The near empty beach

The quiet setting at the Banyan Tree was just what I needed before I dive back to reality in September!
